Ace o (or ‘acePIRAR) is an International Artist-in-Residence Programme that has been running continuously -open annually from February to December)- since 2005 and has hosted around 500 artists in residence from all over the world.
In a distinctly urban environment, the programme functions as a powerhouse of contemporary art production that acts both as a platform for production and reflection on contemporary artistic practices and as a link between the invited artists and the rich cultural community of the city of Buenos Aires. Through residencies for research, production and urban/community intervention, it encourages experience and experiential contact with other artists and contexts, promoting exchange, discussion, experimentation and collaborative work. At the same time, the programme generates and expands networks of artistic-cultural connections at national and international level.
Since 2010 the programme is hosted under the institutional framework of the Fundación ́ace para el Arte Contemporáneo, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to stimulate initiatives and activities related to the expansion of contemporary art, promoting the generation of ideas, multi- and interdisciplinary practices and international cultural exchange. The foundation maintains exchange agreements for residencies and projects with the Lodz Academy of Arts in Poland, the Guanlan Graphic Centre in China and the Ars Council Korea in South Korea, among others. It has produced international art projects, both in Buenos Aires and abroad, and is an active member of the international networks Alliance of Artist Communities and ResArtis.
